Please do not send ANY emergency emails. I do not check emails frequently enough to respond to urgent situations and there may be instances when I do not receive your emails due to technical difficulties.
If you are having a "psychological emergency" (you feel like you are going to hurt yourself or someone else), please go directly to the nearest Emergency Room! You might also call the Dutchess Mental Health hotline at: (877) 485-9700. It is also important for you to get some support, so call someone close to you for support. Remember, whatever pain you feel now will not be there forever and you need to wait a little while so that you can get the help that you need and deserve. There are people in your life who love you very much and do not want to lose you! Go to subheading "Suicidal Thoughts".
If you are being threatened or hurt by someone else, call 911, go to a police station or call the domestic violence hotline (if your abuser is not present) at (800) 799-7233. They have a list of "safe houses" where you can find shelter. If you are being hurt by someone that you love, do not be fooled, they will continue to hurt you and might even kill you someday. If you have children, they should not witness you being abused by your significant other. They could be next. And even if the children are not abused, they should not be witnessing their parent or loved one being abused, as they only learn that violence is a natural part of a relationship and may repeat this behavior in the future. Please keep reading under the subheading Domestic Violence.
If you have been sexually assaulted or raped, please go to the "Sexual Assault and Rape Hotlines and Resources" under the "Domestic Violence" page.
If you know a child or elderly person who is being abused, please call (800) 422-4453. They accept anonymous calls and you could be saving someone's life! It is up to them to prove that there is abuse occurring and it will be investigated, so don't worry if you are not sure.
If you are in "in crisis", feel overwhelmed, sad, anxious, hopeless, frustrated or find yourself involved in self-destructive actions, please call me or write to me and I will return your call as soon as possible.
